Get your 2026 Fundraiser Calendar for the price of $20 — every dollar of the proceeds goes directly toward giving children a life-changing opportunity: learning how to care for dairy heifers and showing them as a part of a dairy show team.
Twenty years ago, with five calves borrowed from very generous dairymen and a troupe of naïve but enthusiastic volunteers, five kindergarteners at a Montessori school in northern Durham County kicked off a project to give children a dairy heifer of their own for eight weeks ending in a trip to the local 4-H Dairy Show. That early effort has become the model for providing non-farm kids with an awesome 4-H dairy experience.
Today, thanks to your support through purchases like this calendar, many children who would never otherwise have had the opportunity to work with these animals are now gaining hands-on experience — learning responsibility, animal care, teamwork, leadership and so much more.
Why Your Support Matters
- Your $20 purchase directly supports the cost of caring for the animals, feeding them, housing them, transporting them to shows, and giving youth a structured, meaningful experience.
- The hands-on nature of the project goes beyond textbooks: youth are responsible for daily routines, grooming, halter-training, and teamwork.
- Many participants in this program come from non-farm backgrounds — without this program, they probably would never have worked with dairy heifers or had the chance to step into the show ring.
- Funds raised enable this program to be inclusive and keep participant costs low, so kids from a variety of backgrounds can join.
We will take orders through 5 p.m. December 1st. Calendars will be delivered to your designated Extension office on or before December12th.
