The Southeast Dairy Youth Retreat is a week long retreat for youth and their families interested in learning more about the dairy industry. The SEDYR rotates between SE states, including North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, and Florida. Participants get to attend workshops, hands on demonstrations, and lectures about relevant topics in the industry. Additionally, field trips to visit local dairy farms and other farm businesses are part of the retreat. The SEDYR is typically held in the summer and it wouldn't be a reTREAT if there wasn't some down time! Youth and their families will have opportunities to visit local attractions- like water or other theme parks- and enjoy some family time.
Registration for the retreat includes travel and lodging, but costs vary depending on location of the retreat. The NC Dairy Youth Foundation raises money each year to help offset the cost for youth participants. In 2018, the SEDYR will be hosted by University of Georgia.
