- The Senate voted today to provide another round of funding to two programs in the CARES Act, including the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL). It's expected that the bill will be signed into law later this week. If so, the PPP will receive another $310B in funds after exhausting its initial earmark of $349B in just 13 days. As of 4/22/20, neither program is accepting new applications due to lapse in funding. As a reminder, have your business information ready in order to speed up the process.
- According to the NC Division of Employment Security (DES), a federal program called Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, which will pay unemployment benefits to self-employed individuals and independent contractors should go live in NC on Friday, April 24. Visit the DES website for information for how to apply. This provision is to allow people who are not typically eligible for benefits to draw payments backed by the federal government.

As we wait for more specifics on the USDA's $2.9B allocation for direct assistance to dairy farmers across the country from the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP), there are a couple of other updates for NC farmers to consider.
